Course Structure

The Graduate Certificate in Business Administration is an entry and exit qualification nested in the Master of Business Administration (MBA). It comprises four (4) prescribed core units of the MBA and provides a pathway into the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. To qualify for the qualification, students must complete the specified four (4) core units.

Entry Requirements

The requirements for studying a Graduate Certificate in Business with GCA are designed to ensure we maintain the high quality of education that GCA provides to aspiring business professionals and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. 

Entry to the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration is available through a proven record of relevant professional, management or business-related work experience of no less than five (5) years in a related field.

  1. Applicants seeking admission to an award course based on relevant work experience or uncredentialled learning must demonstrate the suitability for the course. Specifically, applicants will be required to submit evidence demonstrating their competence for admission into the course.
  2. In addition to supplying a portfolio of evidence, applicants may be required to participate in an interview or complete a challenge assessment task to validate their achievement equivalent to the relevant Unit or Course Learning Outcomes.
  3. Applicants must satisfy the English language requirements for the courses above or the Alternative English Proficiency requirements.
  4. Applications for admission based on relevant work experience or uncredentialled learning must be submitted to GCA at least 20 working days prior to the commencement date of the relevant trimester.
  5. Applicants seeking recognition of prior learning (RPL) for relevant work experience or uncredentialled learning must lodge a separate application for RPL.

Evidence required for work experience or uncredentialled learning may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. A current curriculum vitae, with details of employment histroy including duration and level of appointments, and summaries of responsibilities;
  2. Examples of work produced, including any publications;
  3. Certified copies of statements from employers confirming employment history. In the case of self-employment, a copy of the ABN registration and a statutory declaration confirming the nature of the business and duration of self-employment in the business must also be submitted;
  4. Evidence of any professional development activities or leadership roles at the community, state or national level;
  5. A self-assessment or critical reflection of the professional knowledge and skills gained and mapped to the relevant Course Learning Outcomes;
  6. Any other written evidence may be requested by GCA.

Recognition of
Prior Learning (RPL)

Formal Learning
GCA recognises formal learning delivered through recognised institutions and organisations, leading to qualifications or certified achievements, including those awarded by recognised higher education providers, accredited vocational education providers, professional bodies or associations or structured workplace training programs leading to recognised qualifications.

GCA recognises prior learning through various mechanisms as outlined in our Recognition of Prior Learning Policy. These mechanisms include:

  • Block credit
  • Specified credit
  • Unspecified credit
  • Credit transfer
  • Conditional credit

Each application will be assessed on an individual basis by qualified staff with relevant expertise in the discipline area. Applications should be made as early as possible before enrolling in units to allow for processing and consideration of any credit awarded.

GCA recognises prior learning through various credit mechanisms, as outlined in the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy. GCA formally recognises prior learning achievements in various ways, including:

Professional and Academic Experience
Additionally, GCA recognises professional and academic achievements and contributions in professional practice, academic disciplines, and industry leadership, acknowledging expertise developed outside traditional education pathways. This may include leadership roles in a relevant professional field, significant industry experience, and industry-recognised innovations and achievements.

Non-Formal Learning
GCA may also grant recognition for non-formal learning or educational activities that occur outside formal qualifications that demonstrate achievements of specific knowledge and skills. This may include structured workplace training, professional development programs, specialised technical training,  professional body education programs, or micro-credentials awarded by GCA or selected institutions.

Before submitting your application, please ensure that you have electronic copies of your personal identification documents, academic certificates of completion and academic transcripts. These will all be required to be attached to your online application.
